Mastercard has launched ‘Mastercard for Fintechs,’ a groundbreaking program designed to empower startups across Western Europe. This initiative offers access to cutting-edge technology support, educational tools, and a series of fintech events where startups can compete for a grand prize of €50,000.
Addressing Fintech Challenges
In response to the challenging fundraising environment, Mastercard aims to provide fintech startups with the resources they need to thrive. The program offers comprehensive education, expert guidance, networking opportunities, and exclusive tools. Eimear Creaven, Division President of Western Europe Mastercard, highlights the program’s goals: “Our world-class programs nurture innovation, accelerate growth, and streamline program launches. Our digital tools are designed to support fintechs across every niche and at every stage of growth.”
Competitive Edge for Startups
The competition targets fintechs at pre-seed, seed, or series A investment stages, with a tangible product launched in Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Spain, or Portugal. Areas of focus include payments, Web3 and blockchain, new payment flows, banking & SMEs, embedded finance, and sustainable technology.
Participants will compete in local competitions held from June to October in Paris, Madrid, Milan, and Amsterdam. Two winners from each city will advance to the final event in Paris at the end of the year.
Pitching to Win
In the final event, startups will pitch their projects to a jury comprising Mastercard and external partners. Each pitch will be evaluated based on the team’s expertise, project innovation, financial health, long-term viability, scalability potential, and strategic fit with Mastercard.
Prestigious Prize
The winner will receive €50,000 in marketing support, including access to Mastercard’s sponsorship assets, a fast-track to the Start Path program’s final selection day, and mentoring support from ecosystem experts and founders.
Mastercard Start Path has already collaborated with over 380 fintechs from 54 countries, producing over 10 unicorns, including Revolut, Razorpay, and Airwallet. In 2023 alone, more than 50 commercial deals were secured with Mastercard and its customers.
