HSBC has officially inaugurated its new US headquarters at The Spiral, a landmark office building in New York City’s Hudson Yards. This move marks HSBC’s largest US relocation to date and reinforces its commitment to the city and its US operations.
The Hudson Yards office showcases HSBC’s innovative approach to the future of work, aiming to create an empowering environment for both clients and employees. The grand opening ceremony featured notable guests such as NYC Mayor Eric Adams, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and architect Bjarke Ingels.
HSBC Group Chairman Mark Tucker and US and Americas CEO Michael Roberts led the event. A time capsule with HSBC artifacts was placed at the site, to be opened in 40 years on the bank’s bicentennial.
“Our new headquarters in the heart of one of the world’s financial capitals symbolizes our commitment to our clients and this critical market,” said Tucker. “We remain focused on connecting our clients in the US to opportunities overseas, and those around the world to the US.”
Mayor Adams highlighted New York City’s economic resurgence, emphasizing that investments like HSBC‘s new headquarters lay the foundation for future growth.
The Spiral, developed by Tishman Speyer and designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, is a 66-story tower that integrates green outdoor terraces accessible from each floor. The design enhances employee collaboration, creativity, and well-being.
Michael Roberts noted, “Our nearly 150-year history in the US is stronger than ever, and our new headquarters in New York City stands as a testament to our forward-looking vision for the future.”
The building features environmentally friendly elements like a water management system and 13,000 square feet of outdoor space, aligning with HSBC’s sustainability goals. The interior office space, designed by M Moser Associates, includes inclusive and smart features to accommodate future needs.
The Spiral is pursuing LEED Silver certification, with JLL providing project development, brokerage services, and integrated facilities management.
