ABN Amro has issued a warning to its customers regarding a potential data breach following a ransomware attack on its supplier, AddComm. AddComm, responsible for distributing documents and tokens both physically and digitally to ABN Amro clients and employees, was the victim of the attack.
Currently, external cybersecurity experts are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the extent of data theft at AddComm. In response, ABN Amro has temporarily halted its business dealings with the firm and is notifying customers whose data may have been compromised.
“We deeply regret the situation at our supplier’s end and extend our sincerest apologies,” said ABN Amro in a statement. “There is currently no evidence that any unauthorized parties have accessed ABN Amro client data. Importantly, ABN Amro’s systems remain unaffected.”
The bank has reported the incident to the Dutch Data Protection Authority and other relevant regulators. Additionally, AddComm is preparing to file an official police report.
